Carolyn Bland grew up in the suburbs of Chicago surrounded by a family of artists. Influenced strongly by her grandmother who created beautiful landscapes in oil, acrylic, and watercolor. With this guidance she was able to cultivate her own love of painting. She has worked as an art teacher for over seventeen years offering the same mentorship and accessibility to young artists that were once given to her.

Carolyn focuses on the beauty of the natural world within her paintings. Working mostly in landscapes and seascapes, she closely examines subtle changes in color from sunlight and shadows. Her signature method of adding many thin layers of paint creates a feeling of depth that draws the viewer in.

She travels frequently to find inspiration for her art, with a special love for coastlines and the sea. Each painting is based, at least in part, on photographs she takes while exploring different natural landscapes.

She currently lives in St. Louis, Missouri with her husband, Brad, and their son, Lucas.
